Rupesh
Chhagan came to acupuncture through a unique path: rock climbing. For
the past ten years, Rupesh has enjoyed the meditative focus of climbing
and the sense of connectedness between body and nature it gave him.
However, with extreme physical activity often comes physical injury,
and Rupesh became acutely aware of the mind-body-health connection when
he sustained climbing injuries and sought treatment from Chinese
medicine. He decided to attend the Academy of Oriental Medicine at
Austin (AOMA), and, after four years of study in Chinese medicine,
herbology, Asian bodywork, and nutrition, Rupesh became a fully
licensed acupuncturist with the Texas State Acupuncture Board.
The mixture of science and philosophy that Rupesh studied as an
undergraduate prepared him well for the rigorous training offered at
AOMA, and Rupesh graduated with high honors in 2004. At AOMA, Rupesh
gave special attention to bodywork and professional observation and
gained extensive herbal experience working at White Crane Herbal
Pharmacy. He currently teaches a practical hands-on course that he
developed for AOMA called Herb Lab, along with assistant-teaching point
location and providing independent tutoring in energetics, herbology,
diagnostics, and theory.
Rupesh is committed to making acupuncture available to those who need
it most. In 2004 he spent a month in a clinic in India, offering free
and sliding scale medical services to local villagers. During this time
Rupesh treated up to 20 patients a day, including children, for
conditions like epilepsy, post-stroke, malnutrition, and abnormal
development.
Rupesh has experienced the benefits of Chinese medicine in his own life
and shares them with others whenever possible. Dedicated to the living
aspect of Chinese medicine, Rupesh changes and improves the lives of
his patients at Medical Arts Acupuncture.
